What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is not a massage nor a medical treatment. It does not diagnose 'illness', nor is it a 'cure' for illness. It is a stimulating technique, and works by applying acupressure to specific areas of the foot. The body's energy field is accessed and will indicate to us if there is any 'blockage', through your own experience of a 'reflex'. Blockages are then cleared by the body's own inner mechanisms - which always work to protect us.
When these areas of blocked energy are found and have been cleared, vibrations occur on the cellular level - this is the body's way of rebalancing the area. Toxins are vibrated out of cells - and the body will clear these through appropriate excretory channels.
This will be experienced by you as a Healing Reaction.
Reflexology is an effective method of pain relief as it stimulates the body's own immune system. It is a way of allowing the body to heal itself for both chronic and acute conditions.
Positive reactions:
How does Reflexology work?
In order to understand the practical aspects of reflexology, it is necessary to start with the theory. Reflexology works on the principle that the whole body, from head to toe, is connected. This connection is represented by ten longitudinal zones, developed by Dr William Fitzgerald. These zones run front to back, head to toe throughout the body and are most easily accessible via the feet. By manipulating a particular area of the foot, the rest of the organs in that zone will feel a positive benefit.
In a sense it is like a messaging service - when specific pressure is applied to a section of the foot, this sends a positive message along the zone. For example, working the heart area of the foot will release blocked energy, not only stimulating the heart but also all the other organs and body parts in the heart's zone. Each part of the foot is a different 'reflex area' which connects to a particular part of the body.
Reflexologists use their thumbs and fingers to look for areas of tenderness in the reflexes, reading these as a signal that there is a problem in the corresponding part of the body and working that reflex accordingly. Some also look for crystal deposits (a granular texture under the surface of the skin) as proof of a problem area and work the reflexes to remove the build-up of crystals.
Like all the treatments a therapist may offer they must believe in the therapy themselves, I chose to train in reflexology after receiving a couple of treatments myself, when I had the treatments I actually felt things happening in and around my body, tingling and pulsing sensations I felt great afterwards and that is why I chose to put in the hard work needed to learn this great therapy that is reflexology.
