Deep Tissue Massage
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is a nurturing massage involving the use of slow, firm techniques to relax, lengthen and release restrictions in muscle and connective tissue layers.
Massage strokes used often involve the use of the forearms, knuckles and elbows to work at a deeper tissue level.
Deep Tissue Massage is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as: stiff necks, low back pain & tightness, hamstring and quadriceps tightness and tight & tense shoulders.
How does deep tissue massage work?
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down tight areas (knots, adhesions & scar tissue) to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the fibres of the muscle.
What conditions is deep tissue massage used for?
Deep tissue massage can be used for 'general maintenance', however, it often focuses on a specific problem,
Such as:
- Chronic muscular pain,
- Limited mobility,
- Recovery from injuries (e.g. sports injury),
- Repetitive strain injury, (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome),
- Postural problems,
- Arthritic pain,
- Fibrosis/scar tissue build up,
- Muscle tension or spasm (e.g Torticollis, stiff neck)
For many people, it feels fantastic to have a general deep tissue massage on a regular basis to keep any ongoing or chronic issues at bay and provide deep muscular relief & relaxation.
So don't put up with the pain take action.
